Maa : A new movie of Shaitaan Universe
Did you know a “Shaitaan Universe” is being created—and we didn’t even realize it?
It’s being said that the recent film Shaitaan, a remake of the Gujarati movie Vash, might actually be the beginning of a new cinematic universe. The next film in this potential universe is Maa, starring Kajol. The trailer is already out, so let’s talk about it.
Now, I can’t confirm for sure whether a “Shaitaan Universe” is officially being formed, but there are signs. When Maa was announced, its poster carried the line “From the world of Shaitaan.” The trailer repeats this too, so there’s a good chance they’re trying to connect the stories into one shared universe.
And honestly, if that’s the case—great! With so many cinematic universes out there, one more won’t hurt, especially if it’s done well.
Now let’s talk about the trailer.
It actually looks pretty impressive in terms of production quality. Ajay Devgn is not just producing it—he’s also reportedly involved in the direction to some extent. A behind-the-scenes photo of him on the set, handling the camera, is going viral. But the main director here is Vishal Furia (or possibly spelled Fureya), known for Chhorii Parts 1 and 2, and Criminal Justice. So the direction seems to be in capable hands.
And let’s be honest—when Ajay Devgn is backing something, it automatically raises expectations.
The story appears to be set in Bengal, based on the dialect, clothing, and cultural elements shown. The town is named “Chandrapur,” and it’s said to be haunted by a demonic presence living in a sacred tree. There’s a horrifying belief in the town about offering young girls as sacrifices to this demon. One particular scene shows a newborn girl wrapped in white cloth, hinting at a ritual sacrifice. And soon, Kajol’s character’s own child becomes the target.
The plot revolves around how she protects her child and ultimately tries to end the curse or evil tied to the place. That’s the core of the story.
Here’s something I found interesting: in the trailer’s description, every crew member’s name is paired with their mother’s name—like Vishal Rewati Furia, Ajay Veena Devgn, Kajol Tanuja Devgn, and so on. Even in the trailer credits, this format is used. It’s clearly a tribute to the sacrifices all mothers make for their children. And while moms may throw chappals at us sometimes (we all know that pain!), this is a thoughtful and emotional touch to promote the film.

Visually, here’s what We noticed:
Some shots appear to use VFX to turn daytime into night. The effects look decent, but not mind-blowing—good, but not great. There was room for improvement in some scenes.
Still, the plot seems engaging, and I genuinely hope the film takes horror seriously and delivers something impactful. And if this really is the beginning of a horror universe, I’m curious to see how Shaitaan or its sequels might tie into this new storyline.
Maa releases on June 27, and we’ll likely see one more trailer before then.
